    The History of the Medjool Date: From Near-Extinction to Global Success

    The origin of the Medjool date palm is the Tafilalet region in southeastern Morocco, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years. Historically reserved for royalty and prestigious guests, it earned the title “The King of Dates.”

    In the early 20th century, a devastating soil-borne fungal disease known as Bayoud disease (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis) swept through Moroccan oasis ecosystems, wiping out millions of palms.
